At BIBA, we feel it is essential for British-Iranians to further integrate themselves into the community. To achieve this, it is vital to develop a solid understanding of British Politics and its Political Parties. We are proud to have Vincent Cable, Acting Leader of the LibDems to address our 119th Meeting .
Vincent Cable MP
entered Parliament in 1997 to represent Twickenham. He is the Acting Leader of the Liberal Democrats Party.
He read Natural Science and Economics at Cambridge University, followed by a PhD at Glasgow University. Vincent worked as Treasury Finance Officer for the Kenya Government between 1966 and 1968. He worked as a first Secretary in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1974-1976). From 1990 Vincent worked for Shell International and from 1995 was Shell's Chief Economist. He has been a member of the Treasury Select Committee; is now the Liberal Democrats' Shadow Chancellor and was elected by fellow MPs as Deputy Leader in March 2006. Vincent used to be a regular broadcaster on the BBC and columnist in The Independent and in The Economist. His books include: Liberal economics and social justice in The
Orange Book - Regulating Modern Capitalism.
The Lord Andrew Phillips
Born in 1939, is a solicitor and Liberal Democrat politician. He attended Trinity Hall, Cambdrige, where he read Economics and Law, then became a solicitor. In 1970 he
founded commercial law firm Bates, Wells & Braithwaite. He sat in the House of Lords as a Liberal Democrat until 2006, and spoke on issues concerning civil liberties. BIBA acknowledges with thanks Lord Phillips’ continuous affiliation with our organisation and his kind help in inviting Vincent to this meeting.
Nahid Boethe
stood as a Liberal Democrat Councillor at the 2005 general election for the Hendon Constituency of north London. BIBA is grateful to Nahid for being our link to the Liberal Democrats Party.
Pooya Ahmadi
is the CEO and Co-founder of The Business Channel, with 4.6 million viewers. Her speech will focus on the relationships between the medium of TV and entrepreneurs.
