Taqi Amirani, an UK-based filmaker, delighted many British-Iranians when Channel 4 decided to run his 8-minutes report on Googoosh who performed at Wembley arena on Saturday, 6th January 2001.
The pre-revolutionary pop icon who has resurrected her career after a 21 year silence was a sensation. In London she was dubbed by the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph as the 'Iranian Madonna'. The fifty-year old actress and singer proved an irresistable subject matter for Amirani who hopes to make a longer film on Googoosh's life in the future. The Channel 4 film was entitled 'Going Gaga For Googoosh' and was shown on ITN news on Sunday, 7th January and twice on Monday, 8th January 2001.
Googoosh who performed in front of a crowd of 8,000 cheering fans will be back in London for a second concert in March 2001.
